The Psalter is a sacred collection of 150 psalms—Old Testament hymns expressing the relationship between humanity and God—traditionally attributed to King David of Israel (1000-961 BCE). This edition features exquisite medieval illumination on its cover depicting King David enthroned beneath an ornate arch decorated with peacocks, mythical creatures, and the Tree of Life, holding a scroll representing divine wisdom. The word “psalm” derives from Greek psalmos, meaning a song sung to a stringed instrument. Published by Duhovni Lug, this 321-page edition in Serbian Cyrillic serves as one of the central liturgical books of the Orthodox Church, used for daily reading, worship services, and prayers for both the living and departed souls. The Psalter connects Earth with Heaven, through which God’s mercy is sought for all needs.
