Wooden incense box

The reliquary is a traditional Orthodox container for preserving holy relics, fragments of saints’ clothing, or other consecrated objects. This elegant box has a trefoil shape symbolizing the Holy Trinity, with a hinged circular lid secured by a small screw. At the center of the lid is mounted a gold-plated metal Orthodox cross with red enameled center and decorative endings on each arm of the cross. The box is crafted from dark wood (mahogany or dark walnut) with a natural finish highlighting the rich grain of the wood.​

​The interior features a circular recess that perfectly holds a small object or relic. In Orthodox tradition, every consecrated church must have relics in the altar, while believers often carry small relics in ladankas or keep them at home in boxes like this near icons. Relics are considered holy because they preserve the bodily remains of saints who dedicated their lives to Christ, or objects that were in contact with them.
